Hello.
It only have effect in attacking play right? I read somewhere that when the team is defending, the players will try to adapt to the other team width. I would like to know it's true? thanks.

Well it's not true. When the team is defending, the players are closing down the opposition, so they will leave individualy their zone when chasing the ball in some time, but playing narrow means they will keep the shape with little space between them. This closes the gaps in the middle and eleminates the clear chances in front of the goal, so the opposition will naturaly try to exploit the flanks and cross the ball. If you have strong, tall defenders.. you will survive.
