Case: Mr. Christiano Ronaldo
Reason: 20 flair + PPM: Shoot from distance driving me the headcoach crazy.
Symptom: Mr Ronaldo decides to shoot the ball whenever he can, this include the most ridiculous, zero-angle shots, 40-yard pile-drivers, shooting when clearly passing is a better option, shooting when he could've just dribbled past that clumsy old LOLbeloa with 10 pace and 8 agility.
Frustration: He still does it even when I turn his long-shot to rare. Because that PPM (and his high flair, and low teamwork) seem to ignore manager instructions most of the time. I tried to tell him to forget that PPM, he refused, and I dont want to upset the star man of the team who otherwise deliver 40 goals and 20 assists a season.
Conclusion: High flair, + shoot from distance, very bad combination.

Shoot from Distance + High Flair A bad combination?

Depends on what you want from the players. What is his Long Shot attribute set at? What other Long Shot mavens do you have? Having a player who can attempt and make those shots is critical for high level squads who park the bus.

His long shot attribute is actually good (17), but he is attempting impossible shots, and/or attempting them at the wrong time where a simpler pass is a much better option :'(

Part of that might be his Teamwork attribute. I am going to guess it is not very high. In that case, he will not be looking for the best interests of the team, but merely padding his goal scoring record.
I do not think that Flair and Long Shots are necessarily bad, but for Ronaldo who also has bad teamwork they could be a large problem.

Shoot from distance PPM on any player is very bad imo, at least in the current version. Even with a great combination of high (15+) long shots, finishing and technique, long shot to goal conversion ratio is extremely poor, and players take too many long shots even when set to "rarely" if you're trying to patiently break down the opposition.
I avoid that PPM like the plague. If the opposition is parking the bus there are better ways to score. Corners, free kicks, stretching the play, increasing tempo, getting more people to come into the box by adjusting mentality and RFD, etc. I've seen Nani waste so many good chances because of that damn PPM it's not even funny.

Maybe adapt his position and stick him in behind the striker so that he plays within the channels too and gets better chances on in front of goal to hit those long shots.
I am having a similar headache with Ronaldo in the FM2012 demo his poor teamwork and low creativity is meaning that he doesn't fit in with the rest of the fluid tactics and allowing him to do what he wants with the flair.
I can debate bringing in another AMR that would work that position and throwing Ronaldo in as a striker and stick Rossi who I have bought behind him. His fantastic skills in front of goal is something that is not being exploited in my system with him as an AMR because I am looking for a player on that side to create and score. But he is so selfish that he keeps running into players out wide. He is getting good ratings but I don't think he is doing enough when I watch him on the pitch. I am trying some of SFrasers theories out.
Here is the way he is set up:
When you become more successful as the game goes on you can always throw your weight around and having a better reputation he might listen to you when you try and get rid of his PPM.

If fact I move Rossi to behind the striker, Ron as the striker and Di Maria on the right. I didn't mess around with any of the roles etc... and it created harmony.
The theory now being is that his teamwork won't matter, he is in the middle of the park so when he skins the defender and wants to try long shots he will be in better positions. I don't need him to pass anymore and he is intelligent enough to occasionally get involved in building something. But mostly I want him to be the goalscorer.
Rossi and the rest of the forwards behind the striker will be charged with making things happen.
Here is a video of Ronaldo's best bits from the game. I might have missed a few of his best bits from the start because I didn't think about taking note of doing a video till half way through the first half.
