That was exactly the case. Something happened on Dec 31st with HostGator which corrupted the dB, and they attempted to restore it. In that process (since HG apparently knows little on how IPB operates), several of the core IPB server-side functions were disabled.
Of course, since it was both New Year's Eve and the weekend, getting in contact with both HostGator and IPS proved to be difficult - hence why the forum was all "funky" the past few days. IPS did fix everything today in a recent e-mail I received from them. I've still got to reload the new skin and change a few settings, but everything should be fully back to normal tomorrow.
