Hmm, I'll have to give those two shows a try then, or are they both on Sky?

Yip you have to sell your soul to Sky to see them.

Ah, then I'll have to get the DVD box-sets

The Wire is the best TV show ever made. That is all.

Just watched the first two episodes from the final season of Scrubs.

I didn't think it could get any worse than season 8, but somehow they managed it

I've found it really funny, but I think it's become one giant in-joke now. An in-joke that I find hilarious, but I can see why people wouldn't like it.

Personally, though, I still think it's really funny.

The Wire, however, is most definitely the best show ever ever ever ever.

Thought it was a bit 'meh' tbh. Apparently #4 is really good so I'll wait to judge but so far its been over-hyped.

The Wire is one I tried to watch from the start. May need to buy a series collection set and have a marathon session.

On another sidetrack,  Sunshine Theme re-used in another on-screen piece. Flogging a good score? :rip:

I have felt that about this series, actually. They seem to just be going out of their way to piss people off rather than just doing what they do best - doing quite an entertaining car show.

I often felt that in previous series they were getting criticised for things that were, frankly, not that big a deal. A lot of people with no sense of humour were complaining about the slightest thing as if it were the worst thing anyone had ever done on television.

In the past, even when they had made some pretty rough comments there was usually a underlying tone of respect for those they were poking fun of; be it the Germans, the Italians, or anything else for that matter. Now they're just coming across as people who truly believe they are untouchable.

Given what's happened to Keys and Gray over recent weeks, they ought to watch out.

Yeah, as Sir Steven of Cooganshire said, being offensive for the sake of being offensive is not comedy.

The problem is that the three of them are so over-exposed - tv shows across all channels either together or separately, newspaper columns that set them up as sort of social commentators ffs.

Clarkson and Hammond were never my cup of tea, although I did think that James May in some way kept the other two clowns reasonably toned down - now I'm not so sure.

I think he still does, to be fair. He doesn't partake in the, for want of a less Daily Mail word, bullying in the same way. His other work also shows him to be a highly educated bloke who usually knows what he's talking about.

Then again, Clarkson is very, very clever too, and well-read. Which makes a lot of what he says even more offensive, in some ways. But that's Clarkson. You don't get the good without a lot of the bad. Like Frankie Boyle, who when he's on fire is very, very funny, and very, very clever; but when he isn't he's just an offensive bigot.

There seems to be this idea in British TV (perhaps other countries as well) that if you are reasonably adept in one area of TV presenting, that smidgeon of talent can be translated to cover all subjects e.g. I noticed Jake Humphrey, the kids tv presenter who somehow became the face of F1, was presenting the Superbowl coverage on Sunday night )

Top Gear is a car programme presented by motoring journalists (not the sharpest branch of that profession) - perhaps they should go back to talking about the cars?

To be fair, presenting is presenting. You then get expert pundits in to do the rest. Jake Humphrey is the conduit for Jordan, Coulthard and Brundle to talk about the sport - he just segues from one bit of content to the next. For the superbowl, they had a journalist who has been covering the NFL in this country for aeons and a former player. It makes sense. It would only be irritating if he started giving opinions acting like he knew what he was talking about!

By the way - Jeremy Irons was a kids presenter. Nuff said.

It's NEVER been about the cars...

Why didn't they have shows like this when I was a puff smoking student?
