Well, as you know you couldn't log on for the past week.

We've isolated the problem and taken steps to make sure it never happens again. I know, I know, we've said that before. But this time we do actually mean it.

Essentially, when the site was originally set up in mid-2004, our founder, Gaz, bought FM-Britain.co.uk and the hosting package in his name. Over the years, the site's admin team has changed dramatically and Gaz has, unfortunately, been forced to take a back seat due to goings on in his personal life. Because everything is in his name, we have had difficulty in the past paying for the hosting and the domain name.

We have managed now to transfer all of the site's particulars in to common ownership by the site's current admin team. So, this is why we're confident we won't be having any such problems in the future.

We know that over the previous few months we've had problems: the hosting went down for a while, this IPB forum has corrupted and, lately, the domain name has expired. We know this is a real inconvenience. So on behalf of us all here at FM-Britain - we're sorry.

There is good news, however!

Now that we are sure that we have control of everything ( ), the next step is to fix the forums! We already had a backup forum in place, and we can move across as soon as we like. We'll leave it a couple of days for the dust to settle, but we are planning to move everything to the new forum by the beginning of next week.

All of the posts and your private messages will be moved across and kept in all their glory. However, we cannot currently move attachment. So, if you have anything on the site you want/need to keep hold of, please, please, please download them onto your computers as soon as you can. We can still retrieve some files if you ask us really, really nicely, but it's a lot of hassle, so it may take us a while to track things down.

The new forum is very slick and has a choice of skins available - so hopefully everything will be formatted correctly. There's lots of new features in there too for you to play around with.

Going forward...

With FM10 around the corner, the FM-B main site will be having a revamp too. This won't happen for another month or two, but when it does expect all the usual goodies from us, including our well known tactical guides. This year's edition promises some exciting new features, so we're hoping to give FM-B a better layout to match.

Thank you all for your patience

and we hope to see you posting around these parts very, very soon.

~ The FM-B admin team

Glad you got everything sorted Millie. At least a few of us knew what was happening thanks to The Hut. Can't wait to see the revamped look!

Great to have the site back. Looking forward to seeing the new forum once the upgrade is complete.

I'm just glad the domain hasn't changed or I'd have had to go and sweet talk my IT manager again to get him to unlock it at work!!! :phew:

We were this close (cue image of me putting my fingers very close together) to having to, I'm afraid. The angels were smiling on us.

With regards to the new forum, that's all set up and ready to go. We just thought waiting a couple of days for people to "rediscover" us was better than changing straight away. For one thing, I don't want people to blame the downtime on me switching the forums over.

With regards to the new site layout... well, that's very preliminary. I need to have a word with our coding whizz kid, be we have a very preliminary verbal contract that he'll whip something up for us.

Thanks for the support guys. Like I say - this sort of shit really should be a thing of the past now that (collectively) we have full control over all our various "assets" on tinterwebs.

I resent that accusation

My 'use' is to get in contact with Gaz everytime something goes wrong.

Does that mean your are indeed now useless as (it sounds like) there's no need to contact Gaz any more.....?

Fortunately Keith kept us informed of the happenings. Sounds like it was a pain in the arse getting the site up an running again.

There may be some truth in that

As for The Hut, I'm guessing Ian killed it again at some point as my login no longer works

Twice as far as I know. The latest incarnation was started around April, I think.
