On the wagon means sober. Off the wagon means drinking heavily. :meh:

Comes from the old days where the coach driver would have a partner. This was so one could drive through the night while the other was resting. When they needed to eat, they'd probably go to a public house. The one driving would need to be sober (hence on the wagon) while the other could have a drink at the inn if it was his turn to sleep (hence off the wagon).

Edit: although, God knows where I got that story from, because this seems to be more widely accepted! - http://www.worldwide.../qa/qa-wag1.htm

Yeah, I don't think we're completely skint - the company that owns us can't pump any money in and may have to sell us because of their financial troubles, but the club does generate money itself. It's not like the club is being leached to prop up its holding company.

Our wages aren't that out of control at the moment by all accounts (now that Neill has left ), so there should be money available to fund a free transfer like this.

Its big transfer fees that would cause a problem.

Anyway, Adriano can only be a good thing - we're very short on talent up front. Franco seems to be ok, but he's 32, Cole is injured and after him we only have kids like Hines and Stanislas, who admittedly have done ok on occassions this season, but they're not good enough to lead the line. Not yet anyway.

There was a rumour on the radio on Tuesday night that if West Ham don't offload the likes of Cole, Upson, Parker and Green in January that they'll be lucky to avoid administration (and probably relegation) this season.

Not sure how much truth there is in it though.

There are lots of rumours going around. But the truth is that, although our holding is in trouble, the club itself is fairly financially sound. Given the situation though, gossip about us going into administration is an easy story for the press to cling onto.

Yes, our holding company, CB Holdings, being financially unsound isn't good, far from it, but if they go under (as with our previous owners), all it means is they will be forced into selling the club, as they would with all their assets. It doesn't mean the club itself would go into administration.

What would cause problems is if they are told they have to sell us, but can't find a buyer before they're wound up. Then we'd be in the shit.

While we're in the Premiership though, I can't imagine finding a buyer would be too much of a problem......unless you're called Mike Ashley and are trying to sell for a figure way above what the club is worth. With any luck someone like Gold and Sullivan will come in, and although they're not going to be splashing the cash, at least we'd have slightly more stable owners.

Wtf:

Chelsea are planning a January move for West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green as manager Carlo Ancelotti has lost patience with Petr Cech.

I know Cech isn't what he was, but he's still better than Green imo.  West Ham fans would take a swap plus a little cash, I reckon

Presumably it's to drag Cech out of any complacent feelings he has.  TBF his decision making has seemed a little off over the last few weeks.

Plus, I wouldn't rule out the bid being made to ensure the club has cover for if their appeal over the transfer ban fails.  Forward planning ftw.

okay? what are your takes on this.. I'd say it'd be actually good for Chelsea. despite the aging Ruud, just becuase Carvalho isnt as good as he was before and Alex can step up and do just as well when fit.

This certain fella and Drogba together upfront.

There are more rumours of Heskey to Liverpool surfacing today.

I can't see it happening, to be honest.

He wouldn't fit Benitez's master plan. They might as well sign Shaqueel O'Neil.

Not sure LFC can afford his wages, but if Henry vs Ireland is anything to go by, his handling skills around a net would come in VERY helpful!

I think that the most sure thing this January is that we will sold Babel,Voronin and Dossena.
And near to the "most sure thing" tag is that Maxi Rodrigez will be loan out to us. No RvN,no RvdV,no Arda Turan.

So what you are saying you are lacking funds or if you had some greens you would look elsewhere rather than signing RvN and or RvdV?

THe club doesn't have funds - that's pretty much fact from long time.
In other way both players are having pretty higher wages ,which Liverpool couldn't afford to pay them. One way is to reach aggrement with Real M both clubs to pay players wages.

Like I said I don't think that these two players is wanted by Benitez, and for me it's unlikely to join Liverpool.

Ok here is another one, a juicy one indeed.
According to Tuttosport Inter Milan is ready to sell Maicon if that will help in bringing Fabragas!!!
Maicon is on  City shortlist for a while and the Oilers are willing to cash 45 mil for the Brazilian ace fullback and Inter chairman Moratti is seriously thinking on accepting this offer since it will provide the necesary cash needed to buy Cesc.
One other thing that makes all this more exciting is Arsene's soft spot for Balotelli who is not for sale according to Moratti but if it lures Cesc to Meazza I doubt he will think twice.

The problem is that Fabregas will not leave Arsenal in the next few years.
Then he will just go to Barca,to be the next Xavi, and will finish his carier there.
